Bioinformatics Data Analysis With A Difference
When Fios Genomics was founded, our goal was not to be just a bioinformatics data analysis company. We did not want to churn out more data in the form of gene lists and histograms that clients would have to interpret on their own. Instead, we knew that clients would need meaningful information that they could base decisions on. So that is what we set out to provide.
What Does Fios Mean?
Since we set out to be a bioinformatics company with a difference, we wanted our company name to reflect that. We realised that at the heart of what we do, and who we are as a company, is knowledge. Rather than providing our clients with more data, we provide them with the insights that their data holds – actionable knowledge that will help move their research forward.
To do this effectively, Fios bioinformaticians need to be knowledgeable not just in statistics and computer science, but also in biology. Therefore, all Fios bioinformaticians have a background in biology as this enables them to recognize the biological insights that your data holds. Furthermore, our bioinformaticians are specialists in a wide variety of different areas from epigenetics to transcriptomics.
Since knowledge is at the core of who we are and what we provide, we named ourselves ‘Fios Genomics’. ‘Fios’ is the Gaelic word for knowledge.
A Logo That Goes Beyond Bioinformatics Data Analysis
The original Fios Genomics logo was created back when Fios was founded in 2008. It established our brand colours and incorporated elements of the data we analysed. As you can see below, the dots next to our company name are reminiscent of the layout of a microarray.
However, we realised that it didn’t fully reflect the knowledge at the core of our business. We wanted a logo that would show that Fios goes beyond bioinformatics data analysis. Our company was very small at that time, so Dr Daniel Halligan, Fios’ Head of Research and Development, was tasked with designing our new logo. He aimed to illustrate how Fios ‘joins the dots’ for our clients with our ability to integrate and analyse multiple data types to reveal the hidden biological insights within client data.
Clearly, he delivered. The Fios Genomics name is now accompanied by the image of a network. This not only symbolises the types of data we work with (for example it could resemble a network of co-expressed genes) but also illustrates the connections Fios makes both between different data types and also between your data and your research question.
What Bioinformatics Data Analysis from Fios Looks Like
As you can see above, the Fios Genomics tagline is Analyse, Interpret, Integrate. In short, this is exactly what we do. We not only analyse your data, but also provide biological interpretation for you to act upon. Furthermore, we can provide multiple data type integration to give a more detailed picture of the effect that your compound or therapeutic has.
All Fios data analysis reports are fully interactive, allowing deeper exploration of your data for further insights. For example, on a volcano plot illustrating differences between samples, you will be able to zoom in on each individual sample:
