Dr Christopher MedwayBioinformatics Team Leader
Chris has a background in Neuroscience and Human Genetics. He was awarded his PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2012, where he used high-throughput genome sequencing to identify risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease. Chris was then awarded a fellowship to continue his research in the US (Mayo Clinic, FL) which he followed up with a postdoctoral research post working on psychiatric genetics (MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics, Cardiff, UK).
After his postdoctoral research post, Chris joined the All Wales Medical Genomics Service (NHS Wales) as Lead Clinical Bioinformatician in 2018. While in this role, he built a bioinformatics team that delivered routine diagnostic genetic testing for rare disease and cancer patients, including rapid whole-genome sequencing for acutely unwell children.
In January 2021, we were delighted to have Chris join Fios Genomics as a Senior Bioinformatician. Throughout this role, he gained experience working with different biological datasets, and employing different analytical methods. In March 2023, Chris was promoted to the role of Bioinformatics Team Leader and he now line-manages a talented team of bioinformaticians, helping to ensure that our analyses meet client requirements.
