Dr Laura BennettBioinformatics Team Leader
Laura Bennett completed a BSc in Mathematics, followed by an MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences with Ecological and Biological Modelling at Heriot-Watt University. Laura then joined the Department of Informatics at King’s College London where her PhD research focussed on developing mathematical programming algorithms for community structure detection in complex networks. This was followed by postdoctoral positions in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL and in the RNA Biology group at Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. Throughout, her research was based on the development of network analysis tools, with a focus on their application to networks generated from biological data.
Laura joined Fios Genomics in April 2018 as a bioinformatician and has gained experience in analysing a wide range of biological datasets, including RNA-sequencing, mass spectrometry and microbiome data, as well as biomarker and pharmacogenomics data generated from clinical trials.
Since 2020, Laura has been a bioinformatics team leader at Fios. In her current role, her responsibilities include line management duties of a team of bioinformaticians, overseeing the technical side of the projects that have been assigned to members of her team and scoping out the analysis for up-coming projects.
