Outsourcing Bioinformatics: Working With Us

Outsourcing bioinformatics can help with filling gaps in capacity or expertise and avoiding unnecessary overhead costs at busy times. At Fios Genomics, our bioinformatic analysis is bespoke to each project. We are not a software company and do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We understand that flexibility is required for bioinformatics projects dependant on their data type, size and level of analysis required.

Ways of outsourcing bioinformatics

There are a variety of ways for our clients to access our bioinformatics services – even if they may not have a fully defined research scope when they decide to outsource bioinformatics data analysis to us.

Fixed Cost Model

The fixed cost approach is most common at Fios. Through calls with our technical team, we are able to determine the resource requirements to complete analyses for our client’s research.

If the study has:

  • Defined data
  • Defined scope
  • Defined approach
  • Defined deliverables

Then our fixed cost approach is most appropriate. Once a proposal has been issued and approved, our project management team support the process from data transfer through to project closeout.

Projects that can be completed under a fixed cost model include:

  • RNAseq datasets requiring comparative statistics and pathway analysis
  • Microarray expression datasets with multiple timepoints requiring comparative statistics and congruence analysis

FTE Model

Our FTE model is often used for outsourcing bioinformatics analysis for two broad types of projectstandalone exploratory projects with a large and potentially variable scope or multiple smaller projects to be performed under a single agreement

The benefits of opting for an FTE model are:

  • Ongoing project management support – which is especially useful when the FTE covers multiple smaller projects with different timescales
  • You only pay for the resource used
  • You can use the committed time over an extended period (For example, using a 6 month FTE over 1 year)
Outsourcing Models. Fixed Cost model requires -defined data -defined scope -defined approach -defined deliverables. Hybrid Model gives flexibility in multi-stage projects. FTE model is for standalone exploratory projects with large or variable scope, or for multiple smaller projects under one agreement.

Hybrid Model For Outsourcing Bioinformatics

The hybrid of our FTE and fixed cost models can allow our clients flexibility when they have multi-stage projects.

Projects such as data landscaping in public domain data followed by an analysis of identified datasets can be conducted under our hybrid model. Due to its open-ended nature, the data landscaping portion can be performed under an FTE model while the data analysis portion can be fixed cost.
